Tesla is actively engaged in the development of its own batteries, as they are the most important component of an electric car. The company seeks to create a battery that allows Tesla cars to travel long distances without recharging, which will have a long service life.
The new patent relates to “A cell of an energy storage device with at least one electrode that is tabless”. Tabless batteries offer many benefits starting with reduced ohmic resistance, less heat, longer cell life and reduced cost when compared to tab contact batteries.
If this same technology can be deployed by UPS manufacturers it could offer huge benefits for data centres in the future.
